BAY CITY, Mich. - University of Indianapolis senior wide receiver Ryan Forney (Crown Point, Ind.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" for leading the Greyhounds to a 34-33 upset victory over No. 15 Grand Valley State University on Saturday (Sept. 17).  Wayne State University senior safety Jeremy Jones (Grand Rapids, Mich./Rockford) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Ferris State University freshman place kicker Victor Bodrie (Northville, Mich.) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

 

 
Ashland - The Eagles went to overtime for the second consecutive week when they lost at Hillsdale in triple overtime, 40-34.  The last time AU played back-to-back overtime games was in 2004 when Ashland lost at home to Ferris State and won at Gannon…the games this year against Indianapolis (four overtimes) and Hillsdale (three overtimes) are the two longest consecutive games in school history…this was the second time the Eagles and Chargers had gone past regulation. In 1998 at Ashland’s Community Stadium, the Eagles edged the Chargers in double overtime, 30-27…junior Anthony Capasso (Columbia Station, Ohio/St. Edward) had 209 all-purpose yards at HC.  Capasso, who played defensive back his first two years at AU, caught seven passes for 76 yards, rushed three times for 17 yards and returned five kickoffs for 116 yards. Capasso had touchdown receptions of 13 and 20 yards.

 


Ferris State - FSU put together its most complete performance of the year as the Bulldogs rolled past Ohio Dominican by a 35-13 score on Saturday (Sept. 17) night in GLIAC action at FSU’s Top Taggart Field... Freshman kicker Victor Bodrie (Northville) connected on a school-record tying five field goals in his collegiate debut and senior QB Tom Schneider (Jerome/Addison) threw for 306 yards passing in only three quarters of action as FSU spoiled the Panthers’ first-ever visit to Top Taggart Field... Overall, the Ferris State offense tallied 617 yards of total offense on 90 plays and the Bulldog defense forced a pair of ODU turnovers in the victory... Schneider completed 22-of-35 passes for 306 yards and one score.  Six of his passes went to sophomore TE Jace Heneveld (Zeeland/East) for 76 yards while senior receiver Damien Miller (Elsie/Ovid-Elsie) totaled five catches for 50 yards and senior receiver Mike Ryan (Howell) had four grabs for 54 yards.  Junior back Dwayne Williams (Saginaw/Heritage) caught four balls for 50 yards.

 


Findlay - The Oilers claimed their first win of the season in 50-27 fashion over Tiffin on Saturday at Donnell Stadium.  The victory was the first for head coach Rob Keys.  The Oilers turned in a season-high 503 yards, which included 358 on the ground.  Junior RB Monterae Williams (149) and sophomore RB Ray Ballard (115) each went over 100 yards in the game.  Williams now has 2,480 career rushing yards and is 542 yards short of catching Nate Sprunger (1989-92) for fifth place on the UF career rushing yards list.  Overall, Williams is 1,530 yards shy of breaking the school record for rushing yards in a career.  Junior quarterback Clay Belton threw for two touchdown passes and rushed for another while freshman wide receiver caught his first career touchdown pass, a 47-yard strike.

 

 


Grand Valley State - RB Norman Shuford (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison)  rushed for a career-high 170 yards on 18 carries at Indianapolis, while running mate Hersey Jackson (Allendale, Mich.) also tallied a career-high 80 yards and a TD on 14 carries…QB Heath Parling (Plymouth, Mich.,/Salem) completed 16-of-28 passes for 226 yards and a career-high four TD passes versus the Greyhounds …WR Charles Johnson (Elsmere, Kent.) leads the Lakers in receptions (16), receiving yards (321) and TD (5).

 

 

 

Hillsdale - The Chargers played their  first home overtime game since 2004 Saturday night, defeating Ashland 40-34…The game went three overtimes, making it the second-longest game in program history, only trailing the 2004 season opener vs. Indianapolis (four OT) …The Chargers have won four straight overtime games, the last coming on Nov. 14, 2009 in a playoff contest at Minnesota State-Mankato…Both teams missed field goals and scored touchdowns in overtime, but the Chargers struck last, as redshirt-freshman Brett Miller caught his first career touchdown to clinch the game…Junior QB Anthony Mifsud established career-highs for completions (31), attempts (41), completion percentage (.750) and passing yards (317)…Junior RB Joe Glendening scored four rushing touchdowns in the game, a new career-high for one game, and leads the GLIAC with eight total TDs…Hillsdale has won 15 straight home games and is 29-3 in its last 32 home games, dating back to Oct. 2005.

 


Indianapolis - UIndy’s 34-33 win over 15th-ranked Grand Valley State last Saturday marked the Greyhounds first win over the Lakers since 1999 and just the second win in the 22 games of the all-time series…Senior WR Ryan Forney (Crown Point, Ind.) caught the game-winning touchdown with just 11 seconds left.  He finished with career highs of 13 receptions and 162 receiving yards to go with two TDs… WR Mar’Quone Edmonds (Waukegan, Ill.), who leads the GLIAC in receptions per game (8.3), also had two receiving TDs.  His 115 receiving yards marked the second straight week the junior hit triple digits in the category…Sophomore QB Chris Mills (Lafayette, Ind.) was 22-for-33 for 295 yards and three TD passes …Mills, who earned his first career rushing TD vs. GVSU, has not thrown an interception in last 157 pass attempts dating back to last year…Senior LB Mike Dum (Indianapolis, Ind.) racked-up a game-high 14 total tackles, including 10 solo stops and two for a loss.  He is now second in the league in tackles per game (11.7)…UIndy has yet to commit a turnover this season.

Lake Erie - Senior DB Steve Bensinger set a school record with two interceptions and senior WR Brandon James had his fifith career 100-yard receiving game in the Storm’s loss to Saginaw Valley State Saturday night... Bensinger came up with two fourth quarter picks to become the first LEC player with multiple INTs in a game... James caught 8 passes for 101 yards and a TD.  He is just 75 yards shy of 2,000 for his career... Senior QB Sean Bedevelsky completed 18-of-30 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a score... Junior K Sam Marcotte connecged on field goals of 30- and 35-yards and also recovered his own onside kick... sophomore DaVon Coman made a career-high 11 tackles (9 solo) against the Cardinals and junior DE Taylor Leppla had a personal best with 9 total stops.

 

 

Michigan Tech - Michigan Tech had its six-game winning streak snapped by Wayne State … Junior linebacker Justin Armstrong (Las Vegas, Nev.) currently leads the team in tackles with 20 … Senior Todd Storm (Calumet, Mich.) added one to his season and career sack totals. He now has 3.5 sacks on the year and 14.5 for his career—tied for third-most all-time at Tech … Tyler Scarlett (Clarkston, Mich.) threw for 223 yards at Wayne State. The freshman quarterback now has 638 passing yards in three games for a 212.7 average …Senior wide receiver Steve Worthy (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) caught his second touchdown pass in as many games with a 25-yarder at Wayne State. Worthy has five catches on the season—two of them for TDs.



Northern Michigan - NMU defeated Northwood 38-17 on Saturday (Sept. 17) in the Superior Dome…The NMU offense racked up 566 yards…NMU had 25 first downs and were 8-for-12 on third down conversions and were 2-for-3 in the red-zone…Carter Kopach finished the game 15-of-23 for 346 yards through the air, with three touchdowns…Kopach also rushed for 56 yards …Prince Young led the ground attack with 125 yards and a touchdown…John Privitelli had 43 yards on the ground…Christian Jessie finished the game with 127 reception yards on three catches and had a 91-yard TD …Kyle Senn (56), Julian Gaines (51) and Christian Marble-King (46) all had over 40 yards of receiving…Rockne Belmonte was 1-for-2 on field goals, making a 33-yarder…He also made five extra points… GLIAC “Defensive Player of the Week” Zach Anderson led the team with nine tackles (six solo and three assisted)…NMU last started a season 3-0 in 1997.

 


Northwood - Northwood fell to 1-2 on the season with a 38-17 loss at Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon (September 17) … the Timberwolves are now 0-2 in the GLIAC … the game got off to a fast start, as three touchdowns were scored in the opening 2:56 … the Timberwolves TD in that stretch came on a 22-yard Cameron Jackson (Dahlonega, Ga./Lumpkin) touchdown run … he finished the game with 103 yards and both of the Timberwolves’ touchdowns … Aaron Shavers (Detroit, Mich./Inkster) completed just five passes in the game, but those passes went for an average of 28.6 yards and a total of 143 yards … the NU defense was led by junior Spencer Remtema (Rockford, Mich.), who finished with 14 tackles.

 

 

Ohio Dominican helmet Ohio Dominican - The first road night game in Ohio Dominican football history was unkind to the Panthers, who fell 35-13 at Ferris State...ODU was outgained 617-274 in the game...Justin Bell registered his first career interception and also had a career high 10 tackles...Mike Noffsinger had his third straight 100 yard rushing game and ninth of his career. Its the second such streak of his career...Abraham Johnson had 138 kick return yards including a long of 55 yards...Eisen Hardy and Kevin Guthrie both had 12 tackles for ODU, which finished with 10 tackles for loss.

 

 

Saginaw Valley State - SVSU improved its 2011 record to 2-0 overall on the season and in the GLIAC with a 35-20 victory over the Lake Erie Storm.  For the second time in the last four years, the Cardinals have started the season 2-0, the last time was in 2009 when SVSU advanced to the NCAA D-II Playoffs.  The Cardinals would roll-up 513 yards of total offense against the Storm, 314 through the air and 199 on the ground, the most since Oct. 2010 against Michigan Tech.  For the second game in a row, sophomore quarterback Jonathon Jennings threw for over 300 yards and three touchdown.  He would finish the night 19-of-29 for 314 yards and three TDs.  Jennings would connect with Jeff Janis on two of those touchdowns, the first from 76-yards out and the second a 34-yard strike to end a furious Lake Erie comeback attempt late in the fourth quarter, Janis would end the night with four catches for 144 yards and a pair of TDs.

 

 

Tiffin - Tiffin fell at Findlay 50-27. James Capello finished with 247 yards and 2 touchdowns, hitting on 28 of 40 passes with only one interception. He was sacked twice. He also rushed for 41 yards, while David McKnight finished with 69 yards rushing on 13 carries…Nine different Dragons caught passes, with Nate Scully getting 71 yards on 4 catches. James Hall had 51 yards, Darrion Brown 47 yards and Dykes 43 yards with 2 scores…Mike Virgin was the leading tackler with 12, while Vincent Noble also had 11 stops. Logan Kaminski had 9 tackles up front while Phillip Morris had 8 tackles with 2 sacks. Kody David also had 7 tackles and Michael Gomez had 6 tackles with a sack.




Wayne State - Wayne State has the longest active winning streak in the GLIAC at seven games ... senior RB Josh Renel (Rochester Hills, Mich. Rochester Adams) barely missed extending his 100-yard streak to seven games as he garnered 91 yards on 17 carries with one touchdown ... for the fourth time in the last five games, senior WR Troy Burrell (Port Huron, Mich.) had 100 yards in game after grabbing five passes for 148 yards and one score ... senior safety Jeremy Jones (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Rockford) had two interceptions in game for the fourth time in his career ... Jones has eight interceptions in his last nine games played... junior CB Aaron Cornett (South Lyon, Mich.) had one career sack in his first 24 games but came up with two key sacks as well as two pass break-ups in the win.
