BAY CITY, Mich. - University of Indianapolis sophomore quarterback Chris Mills (Lafayette, Ind./Catholic Central) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" after completing 30-of-38 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 35 rushing yards and another score in the Greyhounds' 45-28 win over the  University of Findlay on Saturday.  Michigan Technological University senior safety Jesse Vandenberg (Kaukauna, Wis.) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Wayne State University sophomore place kicker Stefan Terleckyj (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

 
Ashland - Saturday’s victory was the 52nd for head coach Lee Owens at Ashland. That puts him in second place in career wins at the school, trailing only Dr. Fred Martinelli (217)…AU scored six points in Saturday’s win at Northwood. The last time Ashland scored fewer points in a victory was in 1965 when the Eagles blanked Bluffton, 3-0…Saturday’s point total was Ashland’s lowest since being shut out by Findlay, 7-0 in 2006…sophomore linebacker Cody Bloom (Napoleon, Ohio) had a team-leading 14 tackles (seven solo) at Northwood. That’s the most by an AU player this season and it’s a career high for Bloom…the win at Northwood gave the Eagles their first two-game winning streak of the season…freshman tailback Jordan McCune (Bellville, Ohio/Clear Fork) went over 100 yards rushing for the second consecutive week. He had 135 yards on 26 carries against the Timberwolves.  In the last two weeks, McCune has rushed for 278 yards and averaged 5.9 ypc.

Ferris State - FSU cruised to its third consecutive victory with a dominating 38-14 GLIAC win over visiting Lake Erie on Saturday (Oct. 1) night at FSU’s Top Taggart Field... The Bulldogs scored the first 24 points of the contest and rolled up 500 yards of total offense... The win was the 100th career coaching victory for Ferris State head coach Jeff Pierce... Ferris State spoiled Lake Erie’s first-ever visit to Big Rapids as senior quarterback Tom Schneider (Jerome/Addison) threw for 227 yards and three scores while junior running back Skyler Stoker (Jackson/Grass Lake) rambled for 132 yards in dropping the Storm to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference action... The Bulldog defense forced a fumble on the game’s first possession and the offense quickly drove 34 yards in six plays with senior back Dwayne Williams (Saginaw/Heritage) reaching paydirt from six yards out with 11:45 to go in the first quarter and set the tone for the night... Schneider completed 23-of-28 passes in throwing for 227 yards and three scores.  Five of his receptions went to senior receiver Mike Ryan for 74 yards and a pair of TD’s.  In addition to Stoker’s 132 yards on 20 carries, Schneider also added 41 yards and a touchdown for Ferris on the ground.

Findlay - The Oilers fell 45-28 at Indianapolis on Saturday to give them a 2-3 record with a 2-2 mark in the GLIAC.  Junior running back Monterae Williams rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns.  He now has 641 yards on the season with eight touchdowns.  Williams is averaging 128.2 yards per game on the ground, which is the second best total in the GLIAC.  The Oilers, who were only allowing 150.0 yards per game through the air, allowed the Greyhounds to pass for 323 during the loss as they completed 30-of-38 passes.  Junior linebacker Brandon Butler led the defense with ten tackles while sophomore defensive lineman ShaJuan Grace recorded his first career sack.

Grand Valley State -  Grand Valley State hit the 70-point mark (70-7) for the second straight year vs. Tiffin…The Lakers’ 32 first downs are the most since a 31-first down outing vs. Gannon in 2005…GVSU’s 400 passing yards are its most since Brad Iciek threw for 403 yards at Northwood in 2007…Sophomore QB Heath Parling’s (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) five TD passes equalled Brad Iciek’s five TD passes at Saginaw Valley State in 2009…Parling has now thrown 3, 4, and 5 TD passes in a game during his first season as a starter.

Hillsdale - The Hillsdale College football team won at Saginaw Valley State University for the first time since 1992 Saturday night in a  38-35 win over the Cardinals…The Chargers are on a four-game winning streak and are tied with Wayne State with a 4-0 conference record…Junior RB Joe Glendening had an extraordinary performance in the win, setting a new career-high with 244 rushing yards against the Cardinals…He ran for three touchdowns, giving him 14 rushing TDs on the season, six more than any other player in the GLIAC…He has 96 points through five games this season, which equals the total by Michigan Tech’s Phil Milbrath that led the conference for the entirety of the 2010 season …Glendening’s 42 carries also tied a career high, previously set on Oct. 30, 2010 at Northwood…The game at SVSU was the second of three consecutive homecoming games Hillsdale will play, the third being its own homecoming game this week versus Ohio Dominican University…Glendening now ranks eighth on Hillsdale’s single-season rushing touchdowns list, with six games yet to be played in the regular season.

Indianapolis - UIndy’s 45-28 Homecoming win versus Findlay moved the Greyhounds to 3-0 at home for the first time since 2007…The 45 points marked a season high and was the second-highest total scored by either team in the 16-game all-time series…QB Chris Mills set career highs in both completions and touchdown passes, going 30-for-38 for 323 yards and four TDs against the league’s top-ranked pass defense.  He is second in the conference in passing yards per game (252.4) and has now thrown 217 consecutive passes without an interception dating back to last year…Junior receiver Mar’Quone Edmonds amassed game highs with 10 receptions, 84 receiving yards and three touchdowns catches.  His nine TD receptions lead the GLIAC, while he and teammate Ryan Forney each sport a league-leading 7.4 catches-per-game average…Edmonds’ 18 career receiving TDs is good for a share of third in the school’s all-time record book…The Greyhounds are the only team in Division II that has yet to commit a turnover this season.

Lake Erie - The Storm recorded two of its longest plays in school history Saturday night at Ferris State. In the second quarter, seniors Sean Bedevelsk and David Romeo connected on an 88-yard touchdown pass for the longest play from scrimmage in the program’s four-year history.  It surpassed the duo’s 83-yard pass play against the Apprentice School in 2009.  Later, Desmond Reed had a 62-yard kickoff return, which was the longest kickoff return in school history... freshman Rodney Smith led the Storm with 54 rushing yards on seven carries, both career highs, and scored his first collegiate touchdown... Romeo caught three passes for 127 yards for his fifth career 100-yard receiving game... senior linebackers Cameron Bryant and Matt Lott each posted a career-high 15 tackles against the Bulldogs.  Desmond Reed and Kevin Chapman also finished in double figures with 10 tackes each... LEC fell to 1-11 all-time against schools from Michigan with the loss at Ferris State.

Michigan Tech - Michigan Tech is 4-1 this season and have won 12 of their last 15 games dating back to the start of 2010 … Senior Jesse Vandenberg (Kaukauna, Wis.) notched a game-high 10 tackles at Ohio Dominican plus an interception and 35-yard return for a touchdown … Tech held ODU to 276 total yards—107 fewer than their previous season average … Tight end Bryan LaChapelle (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park) tallied four receptions for 79 yards and two touchdowns at ODU. His 43-yard second-quarter catch broke the game open by making it a 21-0 Huskies’ lead … Freshman quarterback Tyler Scarlett (Clarkston, Mich.) completed 14-of-20 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns. The rookie has completed 71 percent of his throws for 1,033 yards in five games this season … Junior tailback Akeem Cason (Benton Harbor, Mich.) registered his first 100-yard game of the season with 116 yards on 19 carries at Ohio Dominican. Cason averages 65.8 yards per game on the year.

Northern Michigan - NMU lost its second game in a row…No. 9 Wayne State defeated the Wildcats 30-28 in the Superior Dome on Homecoming…NMU is now 12-11 all-time against Wayne State…The ‘Cats outscored the Warriors 14-3 in the second half…NMU finished the game with 301 yards of offense (293 passing and 8 rushing) on 69 plays (4.4 yards per play)…QB Kopach was 24-for-33 through the air for 293 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions … Christian Marble-King had 129 receiving yards and a touchdown and Julian Gaines added 116 yards and a touchdown.

Northwood - NU dropped a hard-fought 6-3 contest to Ashland Saturday … NU is now 1-4 overall, 0-4 in the GLIAC … the 6-3 final was the lowest scoring game involving Northwood in nearly 20 years … the previous lowest scoring game involving the Timberwolves was November 2, 1991 – that game was won by Northwood 5-3 over St. Francis (Ill.) … Ashland entered the game having scored more points than any other team in the GLIAC … Ashland averaged 3.3 yards per play in the contest, while Northwood  averaged 2.8 yards per play … the Timberwolves entered the game with a total of three sacks on the year, but NU ended Saturday’s game with five sacks alone … Ryan Whittum (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) and Curtis Hutchins (Kokomo, Ind.) each had eight tackles to lead the Northwood defense.

Ohio Dominican - For the second straight week, the Panthers and the nation’s 25th best ground attack surpassed the average yards allowed by the GLIAC’s top rush defense, rushing for 117 yards on 26 attempts (4.5 yards/rush) against a Huskies defense that was holding opponents to 88.3 yards per contest…Tyler Purcell matched a season-high with five receptions for 67 yards with a long of 28...Mike Noffsinger rushed for 64 yards on nine rushes (7.1 yards/rush), including a long of 30 yards a touchdown, to become the first player in school history to surpass 2,000 career rushing yards. He now sits at 2,045 for his career.

 Saginaw Valley State - SVSU saw it record fall to 3-1 overall and in the GLIAC with a heartbreaking 38-35 loss to Hillsdale in Saturdays (Oct. 1) homecoming game.  SVSU held a 35-31 advantage with 1:18 left in the game before the Chargers were able to find the endzone for the go-ahead score.  SVSU would get the ball back at the 50 yard line and would move the ball inside the 35 before seeing their drive fizzle out and turning the ball over eventually on downs.  Jonathon Jennings completed 20-of-28 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns, he would also find pay dirt on the ground once.  It was the first game this season the Jennings failed to find the endzone at least three times through the air.  As a total offense, SVSU who had been averaging close to 500 yards total offense was held to just 346 yards.  After three home games in the first four weeks of the season.

 Tiffin - It was all Grand Valley State on the road, as Tiffin University allowed 21 first quarter points en route to a 70-7 defeat…Obadiah Dykes caught a 19 yard touchdown reception from backup quarterback Dan Pitts. Dykes ended up with 7 catches on the night for 61 yards, while Pitts finished completing 12 of 23 passes for 86 yards with no interceptions. James Hall also rushed for 75 yards on 11 carries…Defensively Michael Gomez led the Dragons with 9 tackles while Hausaan Burton had 7 tackles. Rafael Cuellar had 6 tackles along with a 35 yard interception return. Phillip Morris added 4 tackles with a sack, while Cortez Fleming also had 4 tackles.

Wayne State - Wayne State extended the nation’s longest unbeaten streak to nine games ... senior wide receiver Troy Burrell (Port Huron, Mich.) caught eight passes for a game-high 169 yards (a WSU season-best) ... increased his consecutive reception streak to 27 games ... senior safety Jeremy Jones (Grand Rapids, Mich./Rockford) extended his streak to three games with an interception ... in fact, Jones has 10 picks in his last 11 games ... sophomore running back Toney Davis (Muskegon Hts., Mich./Muskegon) set career-highs with 35 carries and 150 rushing yards in the win at NMU, both totals are also WSU season-highs ... junior quarterback Mickey Mohner (Painesville, Ohio/Harvey) tallied season-bests in completions (15), attempts (28) and passing yards (233) vs. the Wildcats ... sophomore place-kicker Stefan Terleckyj (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott) tied a career-high with three made field goals, while the 12 points is two shy of his career best set at Findlay in the 2010 season finale ... freshman LB Nores Fradi (Dearborn Hts., Mich./Dearborn) had three sacks at NMU, increasing his season total to 6.0.
