GLIAC Football Preview Notes - Week 8 - GLIAC

BAY CITY, Mich. -Week #8 of the 2012 college football season finds the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with four teams ranked in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Top 25 poll.

Ashland University moved up to No. 6 in this week's poll. The Eagles have posted seven straight wins (7-0, 6-0) to open the 2012 season and are now one of just 10 undefeated teams remaining in Division II. Ashland is coming off a 30-0 shutout win over Walsh University (2-5, 1-5) last weekend. The Eagles will visit Malone University (1-5, 1-5) on Saturday in a 7:00 p.m. tilt.

Saginaw Valley State is ranked 15th in the latest AFCA poll and are coming off a win over then 18th-ranked Wayne State University (4-2, 4-2), 24-7, at home last Thursday. The Cardinals will travel to Hillsdale, Michigan to take on the Hillsdale College Chargers (5-2, 5-1) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Hillsdale is listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" category in the AFCA poll this week.

Michigan Technological University (5-1, 5-1) jumped into the AFCA poll this week after posting a 28-21 home win over Northwood University (4-3, 3-3) last weekend. The Huskies will visit Ferris State University (4-3, 3-3) on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. clash.

Grand Valley State University (5-2, 4-2) fell to No. 24 in this week's AFCA D-II poll after losing a second straight game. The Lakers fell to Northern Michigan University (2-5. 1-5), 38-10 in the Superior Dome last Saturday and will look to rebound with a homecoming game vs. Northwood on Saturday (7:00 p.m.).
