Grand Valley State Moves Up to No. 3 in the Latest AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll

WACO, TEX.– With its 37-26 win over Lincoln (Mo.), Emporia State (Kan.) moved its record to 5-0 and jumped into the AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll for the first time since the final poll of 2003. The Hornets come into the poll at No. 25. Fellow Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association member Pittsburg State (Kan.) still sits at No. 1 with 29 first-place votes. Minnesota-Duluth lost to St. Cloud State (Minn.), 51-49, dropping the Bulldogs to No. 10 this week. Moving up to the No. 2 spot is Colorado State-Pueblo, who beat Fort Lewis (Colo.) 50-21. The Thunderwolves are followed by No. 3 Grand Valley State (Mich.), No. 4 Winston-Salem State (N.C.) and No. 5 Missouri Western State. 

            Two other Top 10 teams fell this week as then-No. 6 California (Pa.) lost 37-34 to West Chester (Pa.), dropping the Vulcans 10 spots to No. 16. Humboldt State (Calif.) got beat by Central Washington, 31-3, dropping the Lumberjacks from No. 9 to No. 24. There is only one Top 25 matchup this week as No. 18 West Alabama plays host to No. 13 Midwestern State (Texas) on a Thursday night contest. Newberry (S.C.) was the only team to fall out of the poll this week. They lost to Mars Hill (N.C.), 35-28.
