BAY CITY, Mich. - Ferris State University freshman quarterback Jason Vander Laan (Frankfort, Ill./Chicago Christian) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" after leading the Bulldogs to a 56-49 win over No. 22 Michigan Technological University last Saturday in Big Rapids, Mich. Grand Valley State University junior linebacker Luther Ware (Bay City, Mich./Central) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Ashland University junior defensive back Brian Gamble (Massillon, Ohio/Illinois) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

Ferris State University redshirt freshman quarterback Jason Vander Laan keyed the Bulldogs 56-49 upset of nationally 22nd-ranked Michigan Tech on Saturday at FSU's Top Taggart Field. Vander Laan threw for a career-high 357 yards on 20-of-28 passing and accounted for five touchdowns in the Bulldogs' win over the Huskies, which snapped a nine-game series' losing streak. He threw three TD passes and ran for two more scores in addition to picking up 72 yards on 14 carries. His totals included a 42-yard touchdown run in addition to two TD passes of 48 yards or more.

junior linebacker Luther Ware was a defensive force in the Lakers'
42-28 win over Northwood University at Lubbers Stadium on Saturday.
Ware led the GVSU defense by posting 11 tackles and tallying five
tackles for loss (-15 yards) and 2.5 sacks (-9 yards). His efforts
helped tame one of the GLIAC's top rushing offenses, holding the
Timberwolves to just 176 rushing yards and 271 total yards. Ware
now has 61 tackles and six tackles-for-loss this season.

GLIAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week:
Brian Gamble - Ashland (JR, DB, 6-0, 195, Massillon,
Ohio/Illinois)
Junior defensive back Brian Gamble
helped Ashland University post a win over Malone University on
Saturday. With the Eagles lined up in punt formation, Gamble
took a pass from Taylor Housewright and ran 74 yards for a
touchdown. That gave AU a 7-0 lead in a game the Eagles won, 31-7.
The junior also returned two punts for 19 yards. Gamble had two
catches in the game for 82 yards and as a safety, he had three
tackles (one solo), one tackle for loss (two yards), two pass
breakups and an interception. AU is now 8-0 and ranked sixth
in the country.
