GVSU's Carter Named D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State sophomore running back Marty Carter (East Chicago, Ind.) has been named the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week it was announced Tuesday afternoon. 

Carter rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in a 50-24 victory over Northern Michigan Saturday night before the second largest crowd in Lubbers Stadium history (16,236). Carter's rushing total was a GVSU single-game record and tied for the 10th-best, single-game total in GLIAC history. Former Laker Chris Robinson previously held the record with 261 yards on 33 carries at Findlay 2014.

Carter averaged 14.9 yards per carry and gained 245 yards on six carries (63 TD, 53, 18, 18, 25, 68 TD) as the Lakers churned out a school-record 741 yards of total offense in the contest. Carter has rushed for 499 yards and six touchdowns on 38 carries (13.1 ypc.) this season, playing in just seven of a possible 12 quarters in three games. Carter leads the GLIAC and ranks fourth nationally in rushing yards per game (166.3 ypg). 

Grand Valley State will hit the road for the first time Saturday (Sept. 24) with a GLIAC tilt at Walsh. Saturday's contest will be the first and only GLIAC meeting between the Lakers and Cavaliers as Walsh is in its final year as a member of the GLIAC.
