ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State moved into the top spot in college football history for all-time, top winning percentage regardless of division with its 35-23 victory over Ferris State last Saturday (Oct. 8). Grand Valley State now has an all-time winning percentage of .7321 (377-137-3), followed by Michigan's .7311 (931-331-36) and Notre Dame's .7308 (894-316-42).
"It is obviously a neat accomplishment and anytime you are associated with Michigan and Notre Dame in the conversation of college football it is a good thing," said seventh-year head coach Matt Mitchell. "I am following some incredible coaches that built a program that has held through the test of time," added Mitchell.
GVSU, which has had 32 consecutive non-losing season's, is 172-28 (.860) since 2001 with four NCAA DII National Championships, six title game appearances, nine regional championships and nine trips to the NCAA DII semifinals. In addition, GVSU has won 11 or more games 12 times since 2001.
Grand Valley State, ranked number two in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll, is 6-0 both overall and in GLIAC action heading into this week's non-conference Homecoming matchup at Lubbers Stadium with Truman State (5-1). Kickoff on Saturday (Oct. 15) is set for 4:00 p.m.
