GLIAC Football Players of the Week - Week 3

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 3 action. Grand Valley State sophomore running back Marty Carter earned back-to-back GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley State senior safety Matt McKoy also captured consecutive GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. SVSU kicker Alex Kenrick claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades after hitting a career-best 50-yard field goal.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Marty Carter, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore running back Marty Carter rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in a 50-24 victory over Northern Michigan. Carter’s rushing total is a GVSU single-game record and tied for the 10th-best single-game total in GLIAC history. He averaged 14.9 yards per carry and gained 245 yards on six carries (63 TD, 53, 18, 18, 25, 68 TD) as the Lakers churned out a school record 741 yards total offense in the contest. Carter has rushed for 499 yards and six touchdowns on 38 carries (13.1 ypc.) so far in 2016. This is the second conecutive week Carter has earned GLIAC Offense Player of the Week honors.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Matt McKoy, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State senior safety Matt McKoy had another stellar game for the Cardinals, leading the way with 11 tackles and a game-changing fumble recovery. With 1:19 remaining and SVSU clinging to a 3-point edge, Walsh drove to the SVSU 38-yard line before McKoy recovered a fumble and took it 65 yards for a touchdown, helping the Cardinals seal a 27-17 road victory. McKoy added a pair of pass break-ups in the contest as well and is currently second in the league with his 11.0 tackles per game average. The Saginaw Valley defense limited Walsh to a GLIAC Week 3-low 219 yards total offense en route to the win. This marks the second straight week McKoy has collected GLIAC Defense Player of the Week accolades.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Alex Kenrick, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State sophomore kicker Alex Kenrick was 2-for-2 on field goal tries against Walsh, including booting a career-best 50-yard field goal in the third quarter to give the Cardinals a 13-10 edge. He went 3-for-3 on extra-point tries as well in the team's 27-17 road victory over the Cavaliers.
