GLIAC Football Players of the Week - Week 7

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 7 action. Findlay junior Chauncey Bridges earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Tiffin junior defensive back Stefan Willis captured GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Wayne State sophomore Deiontae Nicholas claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Chauncey Bridges, Findlay

Findlay junior Chauncey Bridges led the Oilers to a 46-28 win over Hillsdale with a career-high 26 rushes for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Bridges also caught one pass for 19 yards in the game and averaged 7.4 yards per carry during the victory. The Farmington Hills, Mich. native has rushed for 653 yards and six touchdowns on the season, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Stefan Willis, Tiffin

Tiffin senior defensive back Stefan Willis made the defensive play of the game in Tiffin's stunning 24-17 win against Michigan Tech, intercepting a pass and returning it 62 yards with 1:43 remaining to score the winning touchdown, capping 24 fourth quarter points for the Dragons. Willis led a secondary that intercepted three passes in the game and helped hold MTU to just 80 yards rushing. He also accounted for 118 all-purpose return yards in the game.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Deiontae Nicholas, Wayne State

Wayne State sophomore Deiontae Nicholas took the opening kickoff back a school-record 97 yards (breaking a 65-year-old mark). He now leads the GLIAC in kickoff return average (30.1). In the third quarter, WSU had to punt but Nicholas raced by the blocker and when Antonio Tate fumbled inside the 10, Nicholas recovered setting up another Warrior touchdown (of which he scored on a one-yard run on the very next play). Nicholas finished with a game-high 161 all-purpose yards (51 rushing, 13 receiving, 97 kickoff returns). On Walsh's final two kickoffs, they pooched the ball resulting in fair catches at the WSU 31 and WSU 35.
