2017 GLIAC Football Gameday - Week 3

BAY CITY, Mich. -- Week 3 of the 2017 GLIAC Football season is here and league competition is underway. Game notes, audio, video and live stats links for five GLIAC football contests on Saturday, Sept. 16 can be found below.

Tiffin went on the road to Davenport and overwhelmed the Panthers holding DU to just 188 yards of total offense. TU's Tyler Denton led the Dragons to a 27-14 victory with seven catches for 96 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown grab. Ashland scored the first 42 points of the contest on the road at Northwood on Saturday en route to a 42-14 dissecting of the Timberwolves. AU quarterback Travis Tarnowski, who played in just the first two quarters, was 15-for-18 passing for 339 yards and five touchdowns as he became the Eagles' all-time leader in passing yards and head coach Lee Owens won his 100th career game at Ashland.

After Michigan Tech took an early 7-0 edge in the first quarter, No. 12 Grand Valley State dominanted the remainder of the contest scoring 42-unanswered points for the runaway victory in front of a national WatchESPN audience as part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase. GVSU running back Marty Carter rushed for 177 yards and a 68-yard score, while Demetrius Farmer and Michael Pettis each picked off errant Michigan Tech throws and returned them for touchdowns in the win.

A pair of long touchdown passes from D.J. Zezula gave Wayne State a 13-0 lead midway through the first over Saginaw Valley before the Cardinals started chipping away at the Warrior lead. SVSU quarterback threw for 318 yards and two scores with wideout Alfonso Vultaggio recorded ten receptions for 137 yards in the loss. WSU running back Romello Brown added a pair of scores midway through the contest to push the lead to 17 before a late Deiontae Nicholas scamper put the game out of reach and give the Warriors a 41-31 win.

No. 2 Ferris State put its explosive offense on display once again as the Bulldogs amassed 637 yards of total offense in a 42-10 win over Northern Michigan. FSU quarterback Reggie Bell compiled 254 yards passing along with four touchdowns in one half of action as the Bulldogs rolled to a 2-0 start.
