2017 GLIAC Football Gameday - Week 4

BAY CITY, Mich. -- Week 4 of the 2017 GLIAC Football season has come and gone. Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, Tiffin, No. 12 Grand Valley State and Ashland all picked up big victories on Saturday.

Michigan Tech scored 14 unanswered 14-quarter points on the road to stun Saginaw Valley and head back to Houghton with a 28-24 victory. Huskies running back John Williams lead Tech with 116 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Jacob Wenzlick caught eight passes for 97 yards in the win.

Northern Michigan earned a hard-fought Homecoming victory on Saturday over Davenport by a tally of 24-14. The Wildcats were paced by running back Jake Mayon who ran for 247 yards and two touchdowns, including scampers to paydirt of 49 and 58 yards.

The Tiffin Dragons defense dominated Wayne State on Saturday night by a 41-21 final score. TU allowed less than 100-yds passing for the third game in a row en route to the win.

No. 12 Grand Valley State shutout Northwood by a 49-0 final score as the Lakers scored 28 points in the third quarter alone. GVSU quarterback Bart Williams racked up 288 through the air and three touchdowns, while Marty Carter amassed 150 rushing yards and a score with wideout Brandon Bean catching eight balls for 126 yards and a score. The GVSU defense held NU to just 188 yards of total offense.

Ashland, who was the first time outside the AFCA Top 25 last week, made a statement on Saturday night at home in a convincing 20-3 victory live on WatchESPN as part of the Division II Football Showcase. Ashland won the turnover battle by a 3-0 margin and got 106 yards receiving from Matt Wilcox to lead the Eagles.
