GLIAC -- The opening round of the 2017 NCAA Division II Football Championships saw both Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) postseason qualifiers advance in Super Region 3 first round contests Saturday (Nov. 18) in exciting fashion.

#9 ASHLAND DEF. #13 NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE, 21-18 : BOX SCORE

Ashland eliminated the two-time defending national champions Northwest Missouri State on Saturday with a 21-18 victory on a rainy, wind-swept afternoon in Ohio. The Eagles advanced to the Super Region 3 Semifinals despite five turnovers in the sloppy conditions, while AU held NWMS to just 153 yards of total offense and eight first downs. Despite throwing three interceptions, GLIAC Player of the Year, Ashland quarterback Travis Tarnowski threw three touchdown passes, while Luke Ogi racked up 82 rush yards on 26 carries. Ashland will host No. 7 seed Harding next Saturday.

#10 FERRIS STATE DEF. #25 OUACHITA BAPTIST, 24-19: BOX SCORE

Ferris State bounced back from a 13-0 deficit to take down Ouachita Baptist as the Bulldogs will head to top-seeded Fort Hays State next Saturday for a Super Region 3 Semifinal matchup. FSU changed the moment of the contest when Jaleel Canty recovered a fumble and took it 31 yards to paydirt to give the Dawgs a 17-13 edge at the end of the third quarter. FSU quarterback Travis Russell, who rushed for 103 yards, punched in the game-winning score with 6:13 left in the contest.
