GAME NOTES: ASHLAND | DAVENPORT | FERRIS STATE | GRAND VALLEY STATE | MICHIGAN TECH | NORTHERN MICHIGAN | NORTHWOODSAGINAW VALLEY | WAYNE STATE

GLIAC -- Week 5 of the 2018 GLIAC Football season is a wrap and four GLIAC programs have achieved perfect 5-0 records. Game notes, audio, video and live stats links for five GLIAC football contests on Saturday, Sept. 29 can be found below.

The Davenport Panthers rallied from 24-9 down in the fourth quarter to stun Northern Michigan 31-30 in overtime and improve to 5-0 after the Wildcats went for the 2-point conversion and the win before the NMU pass fell incomplete. Wide receiver Nate Couturier started the comeback with a clutch 85-yard punt return for touchdown with 7:45 to play. Couturier also caught the eventual game-winning 25-yard touchdown pass from QB Haiden Majewski on the first play in overtime.

Saginaw Valley moved to 5-0 for the first time since 2003 as the Cardinals defeated Michigan Tech on the road in Houghton. SVSU took a 3-0 lead into halftime before QB Ryan Conklin connected with Chad Gailliard for a 65 yard catch and run to paydirt early in the third quarter. The SVSU defense forced four turnovers and were led by Michael Alexander who posted 13 tackles in the win.

No. 4 Ferris State overcame a slow start before holding on at the end in a nationally-showcased contest over Ashland as part of the D2 Football Showcase. AU took the lead late in the second quarter before FSU answered quickly to send it tied 7-7 at the break. The Bulldogs then scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to take a big lead. However, the Eagles put together a fourth-quarter comeback and were driving for the tying score late before falling short on a fourth down conversion. FSU quarterback Jayru Campbell threw for two scores (both to Sy Barnett) and ran for over 100 yards and another score in the victory.

No. 3 Grand Valley State scored early and often on their way to a 52-7 victory in Midland against Northwood. GVSU threw for 343 yards and almost 500 yards of total offense as the Lakers cruised to 5-0. In the late game of the day, former conference member Tiffin defeated Wayne State 27-13 in Detroit.

Week 5 once again features five contests as conference play rolls on. No. 3 GVSU heads to Midland to battle Northwood, while No. 4 FSU hosts Ashland in the D2 Football Showcase. Northern Michigan travels to Grand Rapids to battle Davenport with unbeaten Saginaw Valley going up to Michigan Tech in hopes of going 5-0. The lone non-conference matchup pits Wayne State hosting Tiffin at 6 PM in Detroit.
