2018 GLIAC Football Gameday - Week 7

GAME NOTES: ASHLAND | DAVENPORT | FERRIS STATE | GRAND VALLEY STATE | MICHIGAN TECH | NORTHERN MICHIGAN | NORTHWOODSAGINAW VALLEY | WAYNE STATE

GLIAC -- It was a wild Saturday in Week 7 of the GLIAC Football season. Game notes, audio, video and live stats links for four GLIAC football contests on Saturday, Oct. 13 can be found below.

Michigan Tech moved to 3-4 on the season with a 23-20 home victory over Wayne State as Jared Smith rushed for 198 yards on 26 carries to lead the Huskies, while kicker Eric Zeboor connected on three field goals, including a long of 43 yards in the fourth quarter. ZeBoor also connected on the eventual game-winning three points with 5:49 to play in the contest. Tech also received a punt return TD from Kevin Lee in the third quarter on their way to victory.

The dangerous connection of Saginaw Valley quarterback Ryan Conklin finding wideout Chad Gailliard ten times for 212 yards and three touchdowns was more than enough for the Cardinals to improve to 6-1 on the year in a 30-10 win over Northern Michigan. De'Juan James also ran for 119 yards and a score in the win, while linebacker Michael Alexander recorded 14 tackles including an interception.

In what may have been the surprising result of the day for many, Northwood took down previously unbeaten Davenport by a 30-22 final. The Timberwolves gained momentum heading into halftime as Gary Landless recovered a fumble in the endzone to give NU a 17-7 lead. A Jake Vincent 10-yard scamper followed by a Christian Martinez 4-yard QB keeper gave Northwood a late 30-14 lead with 96 second to play. Nine different Timberwolves tallied a tackle-for-loss in the contest.

The Anchor-Bone Classic was one for the ages and saw No. 3 Ferris State reach into its bag of tricks to stun No. 2 Grand Valley State on its home turf. FSU quarterback Jayru Campbell passed for 229 yards and two touchdowns along with one interception. Campbell also carried the ball 32 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. With 3:11 to play in the fourth, wide receiver Jevon Shaw threw a 31-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to Campbell for the game-winning score.

Ferris State earned the victory despite allowing GVSU QB Bart Williams to pass for a career-high 487 yards, including a 10 catch, 200-yard performance by Nick Dodson. However, the Bulldogs picked off three Williams passes highlighted by a massive 52-yard pick six by Delon Stephenson at the 2:55 mark of the third quarter. Stephenson also put the game away as the Lakers were driving as he intercepted another pass with 2:02 to play as the Bulldogs were able to enter victory formation.
