Ferris State's Campbell, Northern Michigan's Ladd & Grand Valley State's McGrath Named GLIAC Football Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the tenth Saturday of the 2018 football season. Ferris State University junior quarterback Jayru Campbell earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the sixth time this year, while Northern Michigan freshman safety Anthony Ladd captured GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition along with Grand Valley State senior kicker J.J. McGrath who claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jayru Campbell - Ferris State

Ferris State University junior quarterback Jayru Campbell led the second-ranked Bulldogs a perfect conference regular-season as the Bulldogs beat Davenport 41-17 on Saturday (Nov. 3) at Top Taggart Field to claim the league crown. Campbell had another four touchdown performance in leading FSU a decisive win on Senior Day. He ran for a game-high 145 yards rushing on 20 carries and two scores while completing 10-of-17 throws for 142 yards and two more TD's. Campbell's play helped FSU bolt out to a 34-3 halftime lead. In the opening quarter, he hooked up with Sy Barnett for a 43-yard scoring strike and soon after scored on a 46-yard keeper. He added two more second period scores with a four-yard TD run and a 14-yard scoring pass to end the half. In the game, Campbell eclipsed the 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yard rushing marks this season and also tallied his 40th touchdown of the year.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Anthony Ladd - Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan freshman safety Anthony Ladd helped NMU seal their first conference win Saturday with a 97-yard interception return for a touchdown with 10 seconds remaining in the contest to ensure the 34-24 victory over Wayne State. The Warriors were driving at the Wildcats 10-yard line when Ladd made the game-clinching play. It was his first career interception and touchdown at Northern Michigan. The freshman also posted five solo tackles along with an assisted tackle to finish the road win with six total tackles. 


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: J.J. McGrath - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior kicker J.J. McGrath broke a pair of ties in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 20-17 victory over Ashland, including the game-winner with 15 seconds left in the game from 23 yards out. McGrath was good on both point after attempts and he averaged 57 yards on his five kickoffs. McGrath broke a 14-14 tie with 10:57 left in the fourth quarter with a 24 yard field goal, then kicked the game-winner after GVSU drove 66 yards in nine plays. McGrath is 9-11 on field goals during the 2018 campaign and 40-of-43 on PATs.
