GVSU's Williams, Ashland's Powers & SVSU's Still Honored GLIAC Football Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the eleventh and final Saturday of the 2018 football season. Grand Valley State senior quarterback Bart Williams earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this year, while Ashland University junior safety Nick Powers captured GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition along with Saginaw Valley junior defensive end David Still who claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bart Williams - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior quarterback Bart Williams completed 20-of-26 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns in No. 8 Grand Valley State's 45-21 victory over Wayne State. Williams' TD passes covered 22 yards to tight end Grant Dempster, 12 yards to WR Nick Dodson and 10 yards to Austin Paritee. Williams moved into third in career TD passes with 126 and 12th in career passing yards with 12,302. In addition, Williams tied the all-time NCAA DII record for games having thrown a TD pass at 47. Williams also finished his career second on the all-time GLIAC passing touchdowns list with 90, one behind former Laker Curt Anes.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nick Powers - Ashland

Ashland University junior safety Nick Powers, in a 41-7 home victory on Saturday vs. Northern Michigan, finished the game with three takeaways on two interceptions and a fumble recovery, to go with five total tackles and a pass breakup. Powers had three of the Eagles' five takeaways against the Wildcats, and his three takeaways resulted in 10 AU points.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: David Still - Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley junior defensive end David Still came through clutch for the Cardinals in Saturday's 24-17 overtime victory at Davenport. He blocked a punt with 1:31 to play in second quarter to put SVSU up 14-7 that was returned for a touchdown by Bryce Anderson, giving SVSU the third such play in the last two weeks. Still added six tackles with a half sack and 1.5 tackles-for-loss in the contest as well.
