KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Indianapolis’ overtime victory over No. 1-ranked Bellarmine has brought Missouri Southern to the top of the national rankings for the first time since the Lions became a member of NCAA Division II in 1989 in the new NABC/Division II rankings.

The Lions have opened the season with eight consecutive wins, including a road victory at Central Missouri Saturday, to land seven of the eight first place votes and the top spot in the poll.  The three teams that followed Missouri Southern last week all moved up as well, as Metropolitan State is now the second-ranked team in the poll and Lincoln Memorial and Southern Indiana share the No. 3 position.

Kentucky Wesleyan, who is out of the gate at 6-0 after winning two road games on the opening weekend of Great Lakes Valley Conference play, received the other first place vote and is ranked fifth this week.

Bellarmine checks in right behind Kentucky Wesleyan as it dropped five spots as a result of its loss, while Colorado School of Mines is up four spots to No. 7.  Humboldt State and Findlay claimed the next two places in the rankings, while Fort Hays State made the largest jump of any team in this week’s poll by moving from No. 24 to No. 10.

West Liberty heads up the second 10, followed by Tarleton State, Rollins and a pair of teams tied at No. 14 in Cal Poly Pomona and Indiana (Pa.).  A pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, Augustana and Winona State, occupy the next two places and are followed by Alabama-Huntsville, Georgia Southwestern and Bowie State.

The final five teams in this week’s poll are Benedict, Alaska-Anchorage, Northern Kentucky, Midwestern State and Arkansas Tech.
