KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time
this season, a new team stands atop the NCAA Division II rankings
as Metropolitan State takes over as the No. 1 team in the nation in
the new NABC/Division II rankings.
The Roadrunners, who were ranked first for three weeks last
season, kept their record perfect after topping then-No. 13 Adams
State and No. 17 Fort Lewis over the weekend. They are one of
two remaining undefeated teams heading into play this weekend along
with No. 2-ranked Western Washington, who has the nation’s
longest winning streak of 22 games.
Kentucky Wesleyan remained unbeaten through Sunday and moved up
one spot to No. 3 as a result, but lost for the first time on
Monday evening to now-No. 10 Southern Indiana; only games through
Sunday are factored into the rankings. West Liberty, who also
suffered a loss on a Monday a week ago but stayed atop the rankings
last week, dropped down to No. 4 and Seattle Pacific moved up a
spot to fifth.
Cal Poly Pomona and Minnesota State also moved up one place to
sixth and seventh, respectively, while Bellarmine, Indiana (Pa.)
and Southern Indiana all returned to the top 10 in the next three
slots. Indianapolis, who lost road games to Kentucky Wesleyan
and Southern Indiana last week, fell six spots to No. 11 this
week.
Lincoln Memorial checks in at No. 12 this week, followed by
Alabama-Huntsville, Florida Southern and Barton. Assumption
won a pair of games last week to move up to No. 16 and is followed
by Rollins, Adams State, Winston-Salem State and Fort Lewis.
The final five teams in this week’s poll include a pair of newcomers to the poll for this season. Newman dropped to No. 21, followed by the two making their first appearances of the year, Wayne State (Mich.) and Charleston. Washburn and Winona State are the final two teams in this week’s rankings.
