Saginaw Valley State Advances to First Elite Eight in Program History

SOMERS, Wis. -- Seeking the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, the SVSU men's basketball team had a tall task at hand in its opponent and GLIAC foe Ferris State University on Tuesday night at Wisconsin-Parkside. The Cardinals would come up big, however, as SVSU posted a narrow 63-61 victory over the Bulldogs to secure the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

- Damon Bozeman notched a game-high 14 points and seven boards, adding an assist and steal for the Cardinal victory.
- Garrett Hall added a dozen points for SVSU. He grabbed six rebounds and had an assist and steal as well. He was named to the All-Tournament Team after the conclusion of play as well.
- C.J. Turnage had eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. He chipped-in with a pair of assists, a steal and three blocks. He was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after the three victories.
- Caleb Davis netted eight points and matched Turnage's game-best eight boards. He posted two steals as well.
- Ferris shot 38.3% from the floor while Saginaw Valley went for a 35.5% shooting clip.
- The Cardinals out-rebounded the Bulldogs by a 48-36 margin and held a 19-15 edge in bench points.
- The teams were even at 32-32 in points in the paint.

Ashland, Saginaw Valley & Ferris State Selected to 2016 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Field
Three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's basketball teams have earned bids into the 2016 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament. The Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers from the GLVC are the No. 1 seed and will play host to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Midwest Regional. The opening round will begin next Saturday, March 12th in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Ashland Eagles landed the No. 3 seed in the region and will battle No. 6 seeded UIndy from the GLVC. Saginaw Valley State earned the No. 5 seed and will make its first Division II apperance in the big dance. The Cardinals will tangle with No. 4 seed Lewis in the opening round. Ferris State grabbed the final GLIAC position in the region thanks to their automatic bid after capturing the 2016 GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament title for the second consecutive season early Sunday (March 6). The Bulldogs get No. 2 Bellarmine in the first round.
All three conferences tournament champions in the region earn automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament:
