Saginaw Valley to Face Western Oregon in First Elite Eight Appearance

FRISCO, Texas - The SVSU men's basketball team is set to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight, which will be held at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas beginning Wednesday, March 23.

The Cardinals (25-7) will open up against Western Oregon (30-3) on Wednesday in the opening matchup for both teams. Tip-off for the contest is set for 9:30 p.m. EDT. SVSU is coming off its first-ever Midwest Regional Championship in the program's first NCAA postseason appearance while the Wolves claimed the West Region in just their second appearance in the national postseason tournament. Saginaw Valley is rated as the no. 6 seed in the tournament while the Wolves are the no. 3 seed. This is the first time the teams were re-seeded following the regional rounds entering the Division II Elite 8. 

WOU finished the regular season as the no. 3 team in the nation in the final NABC Top 25 poll while SVSU rounded-out the rankings in the no. 25 position.

Saginaw Valley's C.J. Turnage was named the Midwest Region Tournament's Most Outstanding Player while teammate Garrett Hall was named to the All-Tournament team as well. The Wolves had Andy Avgi earn MOP honors for the West regional while his teammate, Julian Nichols, was named to the all-tourney squad as well.
