Ferris State's Hankins Named D2CCA All-Midwest Region Player of the Year

Bellarmine, Ky. -- After leading the Ferris State University men's basketball squad to one of its most historic seasons in school history and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Semifinals for the second-straight year, Bulldog sophomore center Zach Hankins has been chosen as the 2017 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCCA) Midwest Region Player of the Year. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) landed six of the ten all-region spots with three on first team and three on the second team.

The D2CCCA All-Region Teams are sponsed by the conference commissioner's association with nominations and voting determined by sports information directors from across the region. In addition to being tabbed the regional player of the year, Hankins was one of five individuals named to the All-Midwest Region First Team with five others garnering second-team all-region status.

Senior Jeril Taylor of the University of Southern Indiana, Lake Superior State University junior Akaemji Williams, University of Findlay junior Martyce Kimbrough and senior Joseph Tagarelli of Quincy University also joined Hankins as first team all- region selections.

Taylor, who was voted the 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Player of the Year, averaged 19.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the Screaming Eagles. Williams averaged 21.5 points, 7.9 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game while Kimbrough has averaged 19.5 points and made 112 three pointers. Tagarelli meanwhile averaged 19.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

The second team picks consist of Walsh University senior Zac Carter, Michigan Technological University sophomore Kyle Monroe, Bellarmine University sophomore Adam Eberhard, University of Findlay junior Taren Sullivan and Kentucky Wesleyan College senior Ken-Jah Bosley.

Carter averaged 24.6 points per game while Monroe averaged 20.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest. Eberhard has averaged 17.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while Sullivan is averaging 18.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. Bosley meanwhile, who was voted the Greater Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Player of the Year, averaged 18.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing.
