BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Ferris State Bulldogs captured the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Basketball Tournament championship for the third consecutive year on Sunday (March 5) with a 80-79 victory over the No. 6 seed Ashland Eagles. FSU is only the second team in GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament history to win three straight league tournament titles.

No. 1 Ferris State 80, No. 6 Ashland 79 -- BOX SCORE

One day after setting the GLIAC Tournament record for threes in a game, Ashland came out firing again and owned a 40-31 lead with just over five minutes left in a frantic, up-and-down first half. Ferris State answered back with 9-0 run to knot it up and give the Bulldogs momentum before AU took a two-point edge into halftime. The final minutes of the game featured a back-and-forth battle ending in an Ashland heave by Marsalis Hamilton that hit the side of the rim as the Bulldogs prevailed.

Ferris State's lone senior Quentin Ruff recorded a game-high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while sophomore Zach Hankins amassed 16 points and 12 boards in the victory. Ashland dropped the game despite shooting 56.4 percent and were guided by Marsalis Hamilton's 23 points and nine rebounds.
