LSSU's Williams, Findlay's Sullivan Named GLIAC Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly men's basketball awards following Week 12 of the 2016-17 campaign. Lake Superior State junior guard Akaemji Williams earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors for the third time this season, while Findlay junior forward Taren Sullivan captured South Division accolades also for the third time this year.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Akaemji Williams, Lake Superior State

Lake Superior State junior guard Akaemji Williams averaged 25 points, 7.3 assists, 4.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds per game while leading the Lakers to a 3-0 record on the week. Shot 57.1 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from behind the arc, and 92.3 percent at the free throw line. Scored a week-high of 28 points in a 98-84 overtime victory over Michigan Tech. Scored 10 points and two assists in the overtime period against the Huskies on 2-2 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 free throws made. Scored 26 points to open the week with a 113-79 victory over Northwood. Shot 64.3 percent from the field and went four-of-five behind the arc.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Taren Sullivan, Findlay

Findlay junior forward Taren Sullivan led the Oilers to a pair of wins at home last week by averaging 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Sullivan also shot 73.1 percent (19-of-26) from the floor in the two victories. Sullivan began the week with 15 points and nine rebounds in the Oilers 88-86 win over Walsh on Jan. 30. He then followed with a career-high 28 points in Findlay's 88-74 win over Hillsdale on Feb. 2. He also added nine rebounds and six assists in the win. The Lima, Ohio native is averaging 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.9 blocks per game for the Oilers this season.
