GVSU's Starks, Findlay's Sullivan Collect GLIAC Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly men's basketball awards following Week 13 of the 2016-17 campaign. Grand Valley State senior guard Juwan Starks earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Findlay junior forward Taren Sullivan captured South Division accolades for the fourth time this year.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Juwan Starks, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior guard Juwan Starks averaged 22.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and played major roles in both Laker victories over the weekend. He made 6-of-7 three-pointers (including his first four triple tries) en route a career-high 28 points in GVSU's 94-83 win over Northwood on Thursday. Starks connected on the eventual game-winning three-pointer with 1:04 remaining in the 71-69 victory over Lake Superior State on Saturday, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. In the two wins, he shot 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) from the field and a scorching 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) from three-point range.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Taren Sullivan, Findlay

Findlay junior forward Taren Sullivan led the Oilers to a pair of victories last week, averaging 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Sullivan also shot 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the floor and connected on 9-of-15 (60%) attempts from three point range in the games. He began the week with a career-high 29 points in the Oilers come from behind, 82-79 victory at Ohio Dominican on Feb. 9. He also added eight rebounds and three steals in the game. He then followed with 18 points, ten rebounds, seven assists and three steals in the Oilers 92-55 win at Lake Erie on Feb. 11. His double-double against the Storm was his fourth this season.
