LSSU's Williams, Findlay's Kimbrough Garner GLIAC Men's Basketball Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth weekend of the 2016 men's basketball season and second week of league action. Lake Superior State junior guard Akaemji Williams earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Findlay junior guard Martyce Kimbrough captured South Division accolades.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Akaemji Williams, Lake Superior State

Lake Superior State junior guard Akaemji Williams tallied his 1,000th career point as a Laker in a hard-fought 90-85 road victory over Findlay on Saturday. Williams scored 32 points by hitting 11-of-20 shots from the field (55.0 percent). It was Williams' fourth time in six games this season scoring 30 or more points. He entered the matchup with a nation's best 10.0 assists per game average and tallied eight assists for his sixth consecutive game with eight or more assists to open the season. Findlay is now 116-6 in its last 122 GLIAC home games following the loss to LSSU.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Martyce Kimbrough, Findlay

Findlay junior guard Martyce Kimbrough averaged 33.0 points per game in the Oilers two games last week, shooting 46.5 percent (20-of-43) from the floor and 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from behind the three point line. Kimbrough began the week with 28 points and three rebounds in the Oilers 91-73 win over Northwood on Dec. 8. He then poured in a career-high 38 points and eight three pointers in Findlay's 90-85 loss to Lake Superior State on Dec. 10. Kimbrough's 38 points were the most an Oilers player has scored since former All-American Greg Kahlig pumped in 55 points against Walsh on March 8, 2014. The Lima, Ohio native is averaging 20.1 points per game and making four three pointers per game for Findlay this season.
