KANSAS CITY - After leading his Ferris State University Bulldogs to the NCAA® Division II championship, the National Association of Basketball Coaches has named Andy Bronkema as the 2018 NABC Division II Coach of the Year.
The Bulldogs tipped Northern State University, 71-69, in the national championship game on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D. Ferris State finished the season with a program record 38-1 won-lost record and lost its last game on Dec. 16.
Bronkema has guided Ferris State to four consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament titles and four NCAA tournament appearances. Over five seasons under Bronkema, the Bulldogs have a 123-41 won-lost record, a winning percentage of .750. Ferris State also had the NABC Division II Player of the Year, junior center Zach Hankins.
Bronkema will receive his award on Sunday, April 1, at the annual NABC Guardians of the Game awards show in San Antonio, Texas. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lila Cockrell Theater in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center during the NABC Convention and NCAA Men's Final Four®.
