Ferris State Survives Barry 87-84 in #EliteEight; Advance to Play West Texas A&M in Semis

2018 NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S BASKETBALL BRACKET

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The top-seeded and No. 2 nationally-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs picked up a national quarterfinal victory today (March 20) at the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight after taking down Barry University by a final score of 87-84 on Heritage Court inside the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

FSU advances to Thursday's (March 20) national semifinal at 7 PM ET/6 PM CT matchup against West Texas A&M who defeated Le Moyne in the first game of the day. The Bulldogs picked up its 36th win of the year in the win as all higher seeds were victorious in quarterfinal action.

Ferris State jumped out to a 15 points advantage midway through the first half before Barry stormed back to trail by a pair at the halftime break. With ony a few seconds remaining Drew Cushingberry stepped to the free throw line up one and proceeded to make the first and miss the second but All-American Zach Hankins pulled down a huge offensive rebound and made a foul shot after being fouled to put the game out of reach as a last-second full-court heave from Barry was well off the mark. Cushingberry posted a game-high 20 points, while Peter Firlik recorded 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting with six boards along with Hankins who posted another double-double going for 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs never trailed in a contest which featured a very even stat line with Barry.
