LSSU & NMU Lead at 5-0 Following #GLIACMBB Weekend Action

#GLIACMBB -- Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's basketball recap summaries from action on Saturday and Sunday, December 16-17, 2017. Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan are both unbeaten at 5-0 in the conference heading into the holiday break. 

#18 LAKE SUPERIOR STATE DEF. #5 FERRIS STATE, 79-74 | BOX SCORE

Akaemji Williams posted a game-high 26 points and 10 assists as the #18 Lake Superior State Lakers knocked off previously unbeaten #5 Ferris State, 79-74. Both teams fired over 50 percent for the contest, while Lake State made 12 triples and shot 57.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs suffered its first defeat of the year despite owning the paint, 38-22. 

NORTHERN MICHIGAN DEF. MICHIGAN TECH, 77-65 | BOX SCORE

Northern Michigan turned the ball over just twice in the contest and used a 16-0 points off turnovers margin to snap a five-game losing skid to Michigan Tech. The Wildcats are now 5-0 in the GLIAC along with LSSU. NMU was led by 21 points from Naba Echols and 20 points off the bench from Eddie Tornes. Tech's Kyle Monroe led all scorers with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

ASHLAND DEF. TIFFIN, 58-54 | BOX SCORE

A trio of Eagles scored 14 points in a tighly-contested victory on the road in Tiffin on Saturday. Ashland earned a 17-9 points in the paint advantage and outrebounded the Eagles by a 32-27 margin. AU kept TU off the scoreboard for a four-minute stretch until 10 seconds remained to pull away for the win. 

GRAND VALLEY STATE DEF. PURDUE NORTHWEST, 73-53 | BOX SCORE

Grand Valley State had 12 different players score on its way to a big victory over Purdue Northwest Hunter Hale guided the Lakers with a team-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Jake Van Tubbergen posted 14 points and six boards. GVSU fired 52.1 percent for the contest and connected on 12 triples shooting 48 percent from beyond the arc. The Lakers owned the paint outscoring the Pride by a 38-18 margin. 

WAYNE STATE DEF. DAVENPORT, 65-63 | BOX SCORE

Wayne State fired 46.9 percent on the evening to pick up a big road win over Davenport on Saturday. WSU's Latin Davis led all scorers with 20 points on 4-for-4 from beyond the arc while Ronald Booth aided the Warriors with 15 points. Davenport's bench produced 28 points to keep the contest close.

SAGINAW VALLEY DEF. NORTHWOOD, 69-63 | BOX SCORE

Saginaw Valley picked up its first GLIAC victory of the year of crosstown rival Northwood. Four Cardinals posted double-figure scoring, including Sebastiano Lamonato who posted a team-high 12 points and five boards. NU's Brad Schaub recorded a team-high 15 points and six rebounds in the loss. SVSU controlled the glass thanks to a 38-27 margin.
