GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly men's basketball awards following Week 11 of the 2017-18 campaign. Ferris State sophomore center Zach Hankins earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors for the second time this season, while Wayne State senior guard Marcus Moore captured South Division accolades.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Zach Hankins, Ferris State
It was another big week for junior All-America center Zach Hankins as the 6-10 standout led the third-ranked Bulldogs to a home sweep over Northwood and Saginaw Valley State. Hankins shot an impressive 81% (17-21) from the floor on the weekend whiel averaging 22 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots per game. He netted a team-high 20 points with 11 boards and six blocks in Thursday's 88-60 win over NU before coming back to score 24 points with nine rebounds and six blocks in Saturday's decisive 107-83 win against the Cardinals. Hankins also shot 63% from the free throw stripe in the two games while totaling 44 points, 20 rebounds and 12 blocks overall for the week. His play helped FSU hold onto a two-game lead atop the GLIAC as the Bulldogs improved to 23-1 overall and 13-1 in league action while staying unbeaten (14-0) at home this season.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Marcus Moore, Wayne State
Wayne State senior guard Marcus Moore helped the Warriors to a pair of victories over Ashland and Tiffin by averaging 18.0 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 4.0 APG and 1.0 SPG. He shot 59 percent from the floor (13-of-22), including 43 percent (3-of-7) from beyond the arc. Moore was also a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. He had 12 first-half points vs. Ashland on 4-6 FG (2-3 3-PT) and 2-2 FT. His three-pointer in the first half turned an 8-7 deficit into a 10-8 advantage. WSU never trailed in the contest after this. Moore assisted on the next basket, then drained another three-pointer. After AU tied the game at 18-18, he scored again. At Tiffin, Moore had 16 second-half points, then opened overtime with an assist and bucket as WSU began the extra session on a 7-0 run.
