Ashland's Davis, Lake State's Williams Capture GLIAC Men's Basketball Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the second weekend of the 2017 men's basketball season. Lake Superior State senior guard Akaemji Williams earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland redshirt senior forward Wendell Davis captured South Division accolades for the second straight week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Akaemji Williams, Lake Superior State

Lake Superior State senior guard Akaemji Williams posted a season-high 27 points on Friday (Nov. 17) to propel the Lakers to a 78-73 neutral site victory over No. 20 Findlay in the opening game of the Don Callan Classic at Cedarville. LSSU then dropped a close decision to host Cedarville on Saturday (Nov. 18) despite recording 29 points. Overall on the week, Williams averaged 28 points, 56.3 percent field goal shooting, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Wendell Davis, Ashland

Ashland redshirt senior forward Wendell Davis poured in a career-high 37 points on 13-for-17 (76.5 percent) shooting from the field in Ashland's 97-87 win over California (Pa.) last Wednesday (Nov. 15). Davis also collected 11 rebounds and dished out five assists for his first double-double of the season He also set a career high with five 3-pointers, shooting 71.4 percent from behind the arc. For the season, the Preseason All-American is averaging 31 points, seven rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 65 percent from the floor.
