Michigan Tech's Monroe, Ashland's Davis Garner GLIAC Men's Basketball Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth weekend of the 2017 men's basketball season and second week of league action. Michigan Tech junior forward Kyle Monroe earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland redshirt senior forward Wendell Davis captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kyle Monroe, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech junior forward Kyle Monroe had another great week for Michigan Tech, averaging 28.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in a pair of wins for the Huskies. Monroe made a combined total of 15 field goals and was a perfect 27 of 27 at the free throw line. Monroe also was successful on 7 of 7 attempts at the charity stripe against Northwood last Saturday, giving him 34 straight makes at the line which is a new school record. The previous mark of 33 was set by Ben Stelzer from December 6th, 2012 to February 7th, 2013. On the defensive end of the floor, Monroe had three big steals at Purdue Northwest to help spark Tech's come from behind victory. On the season, Monroe leads the Huskies and the GLIAC in scoring at 26.4 ppg while averaging a team best 8.7 rebounds per contest. Monroe also has three double-double performances so far in 2017-18.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Wendell Davis, Ashland

Ashland redshirt senior forward Wendell Davis averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists per game last week while shooting 56.3 percent (9-for-16) from the floor and 42.9 percent (3-for-7) from 3-point range to lead Ashland to a 2-0 record. Davis had eight points, six rebounds and two assists in a 70-48 win over Wayne State on Thursday. Davis followed that up with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in an 86-65 win over Davenport, which was previously unbeaten in conference play. Davis ranks second in the GLIAC in scoring, sixth in field goal percentage, second in 3-point percentage, third in assists and seventh in rebounds.
