Ferris State's Hankins, Ashland's Davis Claim GLIAC Player of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly men's basketball awards following the first weekend of the new calendar year. Ferris State junior center Zach Hankins earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland redshirt senior Wendell Davis captured South Division accolades for the fifth time this season.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Zach Hankins, Ferris State

Ferris State University junior All-America center Zach Hankins had a huge start to the second half of the season as the nation's #10 Bulldogs moved back into a first-place tie atop the GLIAC. In his last three games, Hankins has averaged 17.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per contest while shooting 72.4% from the floor and 77% at the free throw stripe. He tallied 15 points with 13 rebounds and a block in a decisive 80-66 non-league road win at Wisconsin-Parkside on Dec. 30 before coming back to notch 27 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks in a 86-80 comeback home win over Wayne State on Thursday (Jan. 4) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Finally, Hankins closed the stretch with another double-double as he notched 10 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in the Bulldogs' first-ever GLIAC win over Davenport by a 89-75 count on Saturday (Jan. 6) in Grand Rapids. Hankins helped FSU to a pair of comeback wins in GLIAC play as FSU rallied from double-digit deficits against both WSU and DU to improve to 16-1 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Wendell Davis, Ashland

Ashland redshirt senior Wendell Davis averaged 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists in three wins for the Eagles, who are now riding a seven-game winning streak. He had a pair of double-doubles in the Eagles' first road sweep of Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan last week.
