Ferris State's Thrower and Davenport's Hudson receive men's basketball Week 8 honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced player of the week awards for Week Eight of the 2018-19 men's basketball season. Ferris State guard DeShaun Thrower earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Davenport guard Avery Hudson was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DeShaun Thrower - Ferris State

Ferris State senior guard DeShaun Thrower averaged a team-leading 16.7 points during the Bulldogs' three-game holiday stretch after Christmas. Thrower shot 43 percent from the floor and made seven-of-16 (44 percent) three's along with nine-of-11 (82 percent) free throws as the Bulldogs posted a 2-1 mark. He opened the stretch with 14 points, three assists and three steals in a decisive 101-73 triumph on Dec. 29 over East-West University before coming back to score a team-best 23 points with five assists, three steals and two rebounds in FSU's 86-79 league road win over rival Grand Valley State. He finished the weekend with 13 points to go with four assists, two boards and a steal in the Bulldogs' 87-72 setback to Davenport on Saturday at Wink Arena. Overall, Thrower tallied 50 points, 12 assists, seven steals and six rebounds in the three games after returning full-time to the team following his run as the Bulldogs' starting safety in football as FSU reached the D2 National Championship Game in December.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Avery Hudson - Davenport

Sophomore guard Avery Hudson averaged 19.5 points, six rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.5 steals in wins over Lake Superior State and Ferris State. In earning his second South Division Player of the Week honor, Hudson set a career-high with 24 points at Ferris State on Saturday and also had seven boards and seven assists. He shot 52.2 percent from the floor including 6-of-11 behind the arc. Against LSSU on Thursday, he totaled 15 points, five rebounds and six assists. He shot 52.2 percent from the field and also made all nine free throws he attempted this week.
