NMU's Echols and Ashland's Haraway claim Week 10 men's basketball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced player of the week awards for Week 10 of the 2018-19 men's basketball season. Northern Michigan senior guard Naba Echols earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Ashland senior guard Ben Haraway was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Naba Echols - Northern Michigan

Senior guard Naba Echols led the team to a 70-61 victory over Grand Valley State Saturday with 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He helped the Wildcats to defeat Davenport 77-63 Thursday night as he notched 13 points and dished out four assists. In total, Echols averaged 19.5 points per game and 3.5 assists, and 44.4 percent from the field while earning his second player of the week honor in 2018-19.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ben Haraway - Ashland

Senior guard Ben Haraway averaged 15 points, six rebounds and four assists per game as the No. 8-ranked Eagles went 2-0 last week. He scored 13 points with six rebounds and four assists during Ashland's 83-61 win over Saginaw Valley on Thursday. Haraway had a team-high 17 points to go with six boards, four assists, one steal and one block in the Eagles' 75-60 win over Northwood on Saturday. Haraway committed just one turnover in 75 minutes, compiling an 8-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for the week. For the season, he is averaging 13.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
