KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team is the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Team of the Week for games played Feb. 4-10.

Locked in a tight race in the North Division of the Great Lakes Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Lake Superior State defeated Wayne State, 90-66, before upsetting 15th-ranked Ashland, 77-66.  The win extended the Lakers' win streak to three games with two big home victories.

Lake Superior, coached by Steve Hettinga, hit on 53.7 percent from the field against WSU and 50.8 percent against Ashland (19-4). The Lakers (13-8) were 21-of-52 from behind the arc for the week and for the second time this season held back-to-back opponents to less than 70 points.

LSSU joins Utah (Division I), Whittenberg (Division III), Oklahoma City (NAIA) and Northwest Florida State (junior college) in attaining the weekly honors.

The Lakers play host to North Division rivals Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan this week. They are currently tied for second with Ferris State and NMU in the North Division standings and trail first-place Parkside by one game.
