Top seed Davenport to play cross-town rival GVSU for GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament title

GRAND RAPIDS - A clash between the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's top scorers didn't disappoint as top seed Davenport prevailed over No. 5 seed Northern Michigan, 88-77, during Saturday's first semifinal game of the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. In the other semifinal, Grand Valley State's Jeremiah Ferguson made a last-second field goal to lift the No. 7 seed Lakers to a 55-53 victory over No. 3 seed Parkside.

GLIAC Player of the Year Dyllon Hudson-Emory scored 19 points to lead the host Panthers (27-3), who made 12-of-24 three-point attempts and shot 54.4 percent from the field. Four Davenport players scored in double figures, and seven contributed eight or more points. The game was tied at halftime, 40-40.

All-GLIAC first-team picks Naba Echols and Isaiah Johnson led NMU (17-12) with 28 and 17 points, respectively. Johnson led the GLIAC in scoring, averaging 20.6 points, per game, while Echols was second (19.5 ppg) and Hudson-Emory fourth (18.2).

Hunter Hale scored 19 points to lead Grand Valley State (18-12), while Adam Bonk and Chavares Flanigan scored 13 each for Parkside (16-12). The Lakers made the most of a 39-26 rebounding advantage and scored 20 second-chance points.

During the regular season, Davenport swept its cross-town rival, winning 80-59 and 70-67.
