Northern Michigan's Johnson and Ashland's Thompson are named players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced player of the week awards for Week Four of the 2018-19 men's basketball season. Northern Michigan forward Isaiah Johnson earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland's Aaron Thompson captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Isaiah Johnson - Northern Michigan

Johnson, a senior guard/forward averaged 28 points per game for the Wildcats, scoring 25 points at Northwood, followed by 31 at SVSU. He shot 55.9 percent from the field and was 50 percent from three-point range, making eight of the team's 11 for the week. The senior also led the team with 12 rebounds, three assists and four total steals as NMU split its first week of GLIAC play.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Aaron Thompson -- Ashland

Thompson, a redshirt sophomore guard, averaged 19.5 points, 12 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 assists and one block per game last week as the Eagles went 2-0 against Lake Superior State and defending national champion Ferris State. He shot an incredible 76.2 percent (16-for-21) from the floor and was 6-for-7 (85.7 percent) from the line while also making his only 3-point attempt. Against LSSU, Thompson scored a career-best 27 points to go with 10 rebounds. He scored 17 of his points in the second half as the Eagles closed out the game. Thompson scored 12 points and collected 14 rebounds in Ashland's 91-88 win over Ferris State on Saturday. He leads the GLIAC with 10.5 rebounds per game as a guard and is sixth in the league in field goal percentage (62.2).
