Northern Michigan's Johnson, Davenport's Smith Garner GLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the opening weekend of the 2018-19 men's basketball season. Northern Michigan senior Isaiah Johnson earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors, while Davenport sophomore forward Delano Smith captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Isaiah Johnson - Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan senior Isaiah Johnson led the Wildcats to two victories on opening weekend by averaging 28.5 points in the the two wins along with 5.5 rebounds. The Senior posted a career-high 33 points in Sunday's 77-59 win over Lewis while tying a career-high with five three-pointers. During the game, he also reached 1,000 points for his career. In Saturday's 93-70 win over McKendree, Johnson finished with 24 points, hitting four threes. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Delano Smith - Davenport

Davenport sophomore forward Delano Smith showed why he was selected a GLIAC South preseason selection by scoring 39 points on 70.6 percent shooting in a pair of wins over William Jewell and Rockhurst. He connected on 5-of-6 behind the arc and chipped in 12 rebounds.  Smith started the season with 24 points and eight rebounds in a 92-85 win at William Jewell before posting 15 points and four rebounds in a 73-62 victory at Rockhurst.
