UWP Trimble, SVSU's Ellison Named Men's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week nine of the 2019-20 men's basketball season. Parkside sophomore guard Brandon Trimble earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley St. junior guard Malik Ellison was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Trimble - Parkside

Trimble carried the Rangers to a pair of huge home double-digit victories over GLIAC North rivals Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan this weekend. The redshirt-sophomore averaged 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in both wins where he was absolutely on fire from the floor, going 17-for-27 and 8-of-11 from beyond the arc. He finished with a season-high 25 points in the win over NMU, with 17 coming in the first half. Defensively, the Rangers held the Huskies to 56 points (their lowest total of the year) and the Wildcats to 60.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Malik Ellison - Saginaw Valley St.

Junior guard Malik Ellison had a pair of stellar games in SVSU's weekend action, leading the team to a 1-1 record. Ellison averaged 26.0 ppg, 6.0 apg, 4.5 rpg and 2.0 steals per game. He put up 22 points with four rebounds and a career-high eight assists in Thursday's 79-66 victory over LSSU. He then went-off for a career-high 30 points, adding five boards with four assists and three steals in Sunday's narrow 86-82 loss to #11 Ferris State.
