GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week 7 of the men's basketball season. Lake Superior State redshirt senior guard Malek Adams received GLIAC North Division Player of the Week recognition, while Saginaw Valley State senior guard Darnell Hoskins Jr. was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.
NORTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Malek Adams - Lake Superior State
Malek Adams (Grand Ledge, Mich.) has earned his first GLIAC North Player of the Week award of the season as the redshirt senior led the Lakers to a pair of conference wins over Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State at home this weekend. Adams started both games over the weekend and totaled 57 points in the pair of contests. In Thursday night’s 99-87 win over SVSU, Adams scored a career-best 33 points, which included a career-high five three-pointers in the game. Adams finished the game with 11 field goals on 18 attempts, which tied his previous career-high in field goals. On Saturday afternoon, Adams posted 24 points for the Lakers in a 73-63 win over Wayne State. Against the Warriors, Adams went 8-for-20 from the field and scored on seven of his nine free throw attempts. Adams finished the weekend with a 50.0% shooting percentage and a 37.5 percentage from three. Adams totaled nine rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block in the pair of GLIAC games this weekend.
SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Darnell Hoskins Jr. - Saginaw Valley State
Senior guard Darnell Hoskins Jr. (Dayton, Ohio) scored 17 points, adding five assists for the Cardinals in a loss at Lake Superior State on Thursday. He added a 24-point performance in a loss at Michigan Tech, where he hit seven 3-pointers for SVSU. Hoskins is averaging 12.8 points per game and recently set the SVSU program record for career 3-pointers, currently with 231.
