Parkside's Palmer and LSSU's Perkins named GLIAC men's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Parkside redshirt junior guard Josiah Palmer has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Lake Superior State junior forward Kingsley Perkins earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition following the opening weekend of the 2023-24 men's basketball season. 


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josiah Palmer, Parkside

Parkside men’s basketball redshirt junior Josiah Palmer was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, following his major contributions that helped to propel Parkside to a 2-0 start for a third straight season. Palmer was nearly unstoppable on Friday night in the Rangers 79-71 win over No. 5 Indy. Palmer poured in a career best 26 points on 8-11 shooting. He was 5-7 from three and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. He also had eight assists in the contest. The Illinois native averaged 16.5 points per game over the opening weekend and 7.5 assists per game.


DEFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kingsley Perkins, Lake Superior State

Kingsley Perkins came away with five steals, including tying his career-high with three in LSSU’s 78-65 victory over Northwood on Saturday, and he rejected a pair of shots in both games on the week. Meanwhile, Perkins was able to secure 19 rebounds, while also scoring 26 points to help lead the Lakers to a 2-0 start to the season.
