Grand Valley State's Chris Cunningham Named GLIAC Men's Golf "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University sophomore Chris Cunningham (Milford, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's golf "Athlete of the Week" after  finishing in fourth place at the Detroit Titans Invitational, held at Prestwick Village G. C., Detroit, Mich. on April 13-14.

Grand Valley State University sophomore Chris Cunningham finished fourth on the individual leaderboard at the Detroit Titan Invitational this past weekend. Cunningham recorded a three-round total of 213 (-3), and shot rounds of 72, 68 and 73 in the tournament. The 68 he shot in the second round tied for the third-lowest round in the field.

Ashland - The Eagles were idle last week. This week, they host the AU Invitational at the Country Club of Ashland. That event will be held Apr. 21-22.

 

 

 


Ferris State - The Ferris State University men's golf team came within a single stroke of winning a largely Division I field at the Detroit Titans Invitational held on Friday and Saturday (April 13-14) at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland, Mich. FSU finished the three-round tournament with a 866 team score and was just a single stroke behind champion Loyola, which carded a 865.  FSU fired rounds of 292, 287 and 287 to close within a single shot. FSU was paced by Trent Davison, who tied for fifth place individually at 214 for the tournament on rounds of 75, 71 and 68.  His final-round score of 68 was the second-best mark in the final day of action.  Overall, he finished at two-under for the tournament. The Bulldogs will be back in action at the Ashland Invitational on April 21-22 in Ashland, Ohio.

 

 

 


Findlay - The University of Findlay men's golf team was idle this past week and will be in action next at the Ashland Invitational.

 

 

 




Grand Valley State - The Grand Valley State men’s golf team claimed a fourth-place finish at the Detroit Titans Invitational with a three-round team total of 892 (+28). The Lakers were the second-highest finishing Division II school and carded a second round 288 as a team, tying for the third-best round of the tournament. GVSU will head to Ashland, Ohio this weekend to compete in the Ashland Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 21-22).

 

 

 

 

Lake Erie Storm - The Lake Erie College men's golf team did not participate this past weekend. The Storm will play in the Ashland Invitational April 21 in Ashland, Ohio.

 

 

 

 


Lake Superior State -  LSSU did not compete this week and will be back in action in the Ashland Invitational on April 21.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Northern Michigan University Northern Michigan - The Northern Michigan University golf team had the week off and will travels to Ohio on April 21 for the Ashland Invitational.

 

 

 

 

 



Northwood - The Northwood University men’s golf team was idle this past week and will be in action next at the Ashland Invitational in Ashland, Ohio.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ohio Dominican Panthers -  The Panthers posted a final round score of 310 to shore up fourth position on Sunday at Ohio Wesleyan’s Strimer Memorial Invitational at Oakhaven GC in Delaware. In a fourth-place tie following Saturday’s action, the Panthers battled strong gusts of wind to secure the number four spot with a two-day tournament a total of (314-310), just three back of runner-up OWU. Freshman Conor O’Hea (Middletown, OH), Saturday’s round one leader, led ODU with a 10-over, 152 (72-80) for shared runner-up honors and his highest finish of the year. Junior Tyler Sebert (Grove City, OH) matched his opening round score, carding his second 77 for a 12-over, 154 and a tie for seventh. Senior Gary Wright Jr. (Warsaw, OH) and junior Connor Stookey (Milford, OH) each tied for 14th with a pair of 156s as Wright Jr. went 77-79 around the par-71, 6,830 yard course, and Stookey followed up an 81 with a team-low round of 75 on Sunday. The duo also combined for 11 birdies as Stookey led the field with six over the two days. Next up for the Panthers is the two-day Ashland Invitational at Ashland CC, beginning Saturday, April 21.

 

 

 

 

Saginaw Valley State University

Saginaw Valley State - The SVSU golf team was idle this past week. The Saginaw Valley golfers will travel to Ohio for the Ashland Invitational at the Country Club of Ashland.

 

 

 

 



Tiffin -  Tiffin University was idle last week. The Dragons are in action at the Ashland Invitational this coming weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wayne State University Wayne State - The Wayne State University men's golf team finished in second place at the IUP Invitational which concluded Monday at Indiana Country Club.  Wayne State (293-296--589) was the runner-up to host Indiana University of Pennsylvania (286-287--573). Four Warriors finished among the top 23 golfers in the field. Jack Mitroka (Riverview, Mich.) was the leader of the group, finishing in a tie for 10th place (147).  He turned in a score of 71 on Monday and was six strokes behind medalist Brad Boyle of IUP. Wayne State, ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Midwest Regional poll released last week, will compete at Spring Arbor on Thursday before traveling to the Ashland Invitational this weekend.
