NORMAN, Okla. – Ohio Dominican's and Ferris State's men's golf team was recently named to the Division II Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic list.
The Panthers and Bulldogs are just two of 14 Division II teams across the country. They are also the only two GLIAC members to receive such an honor.
This is the seventh academic team award the men have received under head coach Chris Deibel and the second at the Division II level. ODU was a five-time NAIA Scholar Team Award recipient and in 2010 was named the NAIA Men's Golf Academic National Champions.
"I'm very happy and proud of our team for being named as a GCAA Team Academic Award recipient for their hard work in the classroom," Deibel said. "Their outstanding efforts on and off the course are a great example of the 'Life in the Balance' philosophy of Division II athletics."
The Bulldog men's golf squad made its 10th consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearance in a row this past season under head coach Mike Mignano. FSU placed tied for 10th at the 2012 NCAA Division II Midwest/South Central Super Regional (May 7-9) held in Jefferson City, Mo.
The Bulldogs had three top-three tourney finishes and were among the top 10 squads in seven spring outings, including a share of 10th place at the super regional.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year and must average a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher.
The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) was established in 1958 and is located in Norman, OK. The GCAA is a non-profit organization and is the professional association of men's collegiate golf coaches. Through its established events and programs, the GCAA maintains a goal of increasing awareness and the status of men's golf. There are over 750 members in the GCAA representing all three NCAA divisions as well as NAIA and NJCAA.
