Tiffin's Darby Roggow to Lead GLIAC Select Team Overseas

Tiffin University golf coach and 2012 GLIAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year Darby Roggow has been selected to lead a USA Athletes International (USAAI) team in the IGI Series in St. Andrews, Scotland from August 12th through August 21st, 2013.

The USAAI team, composed of 12 select athletes from across the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will travel to Scotland to compete in a series of matches against a local Scotland club. Players from across the conference are recommended for the team based on two key elements: (1) their athletic ability and (2) their ability to represent their country, school and hometown in a positive manner. Tiffin's senior Jon Klein (Lake Bluff, Ill.), Honorable Mention All-GLIAC sophomore Tyler Maranville (Hartville, Oh.), and senior Andrew Bolinger (Castalia, Oh.) will be joined by nine other GLIAC standouts for the trip.

"Coach Roggow is an example of the type of athletic ambassador and mentor USA Athletes International seeks to bring into international competition. He will bring the term ambassador to life on this trip, showing the GLIAC athletes and the Scottish community his passion for the game that he has had the opportunity to excel at here in the States," stated Nick Vaughn, Golf Program Coordinator at USA Athletes International.

"Darby is taking the opportunity to represent Tiffin University and the GLIAC as an ambassador for the game and the USA.He is definitely making the best of this opportunity and we are all proud to have him as a part of our program."

In addition to competing, the team will also take time to tour Scotland, learning all about the history and culture of the historic country.

USA Athletes International is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that seeks to provide educational opportunities that are facilitated through athletic competition.

With the exception of the U.S. Olympic program, there are few opportunities for athletes to experience the competition, history, and culture of other countries on an international level.
