Malone's Tyler Light and Nate Tarter Earn GLIAC Men's Golf "Co-Athletes of the Year" Award

Wayne State's Andrus Named "Freshman of the Year," Malone's Hyland Tabbed "Coach of the Year"

BAY CITY, Mich. — Malone University seniors Tyler Light (Massillon, Ohio / Perry) and  Nate Tarter (Mogadore, Ohio / Mogadore) has earned the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf  "Co-Athletes of the Year" award as announced by the conference office. Wayne State University rookie Jordan Andrus (Pinckney, Mich. / Pinckney)  was named the conference's "Freshman of the Year" while Malone University head coach Ken Hyland was tabbed as the GLIAC "Coach of the Year".

Malone University men's golf seniors Tyler Light and Nate Tarter have been selected as GLIAC "Co-Athletes of the Year."  After sitting out the 2012-2013 campaign in order to compete in post season play at the Division II level, their dedication and hard work has paid off individually and for the entire Pioneer team. Light and Tarter have led the Pioneers to the GLIAC Championship as well as the NCAA Division II Super Regional title qualifying the squad to play in the Division II National Championship this week at The Meadows G.C. in Allendale, Michigan. Tarter received individual medalist honors four times throughout the year while Light followed with two of his own. The duo combined for 11 top three finishes on the year with six of those finishes being first overall.

Jordan Andrus was named GLIAC Men's Golf "Freshman of the Year" an in his first year of action for the Green & Gold, Andrus has made his presence known, winning his first ever tournament at the Lake Superior State Invitational and collecting a top-five finish the next weekend at the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate. He collected back-to-back top-15 finished at SVSU Invitational and UW-Parkside Invitational earlier this spring.

Malone University veteran Malone University men's golf head coach Ken Hyland has been selected as the GLIAC "Coach of the Year." Hyland has led the Pioneers to at least a top three finish in each of their 12 events this year with seven first-place finishes including the GLIAC Championship and the NCAA Division II Super Regional Championship. With the win at the NCAA Division II Super Regional, Hyland and the Pioneers qualified to compete at the NCAA Division II National Championship at The Meadows G.C. in Allendale Michigan.

Joining Light and Tarter on the 2014 All-GLIAC First Team are: senior Chris Cunningham and redshirt junior Jack Rider of Grand Valley State University; junior Micah Skidmore and junior Wyatt Drost of Saginaw Valley State University.

The 2014 All-GLIAC Second Team includes: senior Jon Clark and junior Garrison Myles of Malone University;  sophomore John Tidenberg of Tiffin University, senior Trent Davison of Ferris State University; redshirt sophomore Tyler LaSerra and redshirt senior Alex LaSerra of  Wayne State University; senior Bruce Eccleton of Northwood University; and junior Eric Dowiatt of Ashland University.
