ORLANDO, Fla. – The Malone Pioneers were voted 11th in the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) 2014 Preseason Poll for men's golf. The Pioneers earned 223 points in the preseason balloting.
In Malone's first season of NCAA eligibility last year, the Pioneers marched to a national semifinalist finish and became the first-ever Malone team (any sport) to qualify for NCAA national championship competition.
Five other GLIAC men's golf teams received votes in the GCAA Poll: Saginaw Valley State (23), Grand Valley State (11), Wayne State (10), Ferris State (9) and Ashland (7).
Two-time defending national champion Barry debuted at No. 1 in the GCAA Coaches Preseason Poll. Barry received 16 first-place votes. CSU-Monterey Bay was No. 2 and was followed by Nova Southeastern and Chico State, who each earned a first-place vote. Lynn rounded out the top five.
