BAY CITY, Mich. — Ferris State University junior golfer Ben Cook has been named 2014-15 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golfer of the Year as announced by the conference office on Thursday (April 23). Grand Valley State's Domenic Mancinelli earned Freshman of the Year honors, while Tiffin's Darby Roggow captured Coach of the Year accolades in his 16th season with the Dragons.
Ferris State University junior golfer Ben Cook has had his best season on the collegiate level to date for the Bulldogs. Cook has placed among the top 10 performers in tournament action in nine of FSU's 11 competitions this season, including five of six outings this spring. He twice has earned medalist honors in tournament action and also claimed runner-up laurels on two other occassions. Overall, the three-year letterwinner has recorded eight top-five finishes in the 2014-15 campaign. His performance has the Bulldogs on the brink of receiving their 13th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Grand Valley State's Domenic Mancinelli collected the GLIAC Freshman of the Year Award, becoming the third player in program history to do so. The Plymouth, Michigan native recorded three top-10 finishes and posted two scores in the 60s, including a 4-under-par 68 at the AMFAM Spring Invitational, which carried the Lakers to the team title. Mancinelli's individual success also helped GVSU to a win at the GLIAC North Fall Invitational and a runner-up finish at the loaded NCAA Midwest Regional No. 4.
Joining Cook on the 2014-15 All-GLIAC First Team are: redshirt senior Jack Rider of Grand Valley State, senior Doug Piesko of Lake Superior State, sophomore Brett Green of Tiffin, Malone seniors Garrison Myles and Ryan Headley, and the 2014 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship medalist from Walsh, senior Nick Paxos.
The 2015 All-GLIAC Second Team includes: senior Tyler Maranville and junior John Tidenberg from Tiffin, junior Tyler Polulak from Grand Valley State, senior Micah Skidmore from Saginaw Valley State, and freshman Domenic Mancinelli of Grand Valley State.
