ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State junior men's golfer Alex Scott has been named a semifinalist for the Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, presented by Barbasol Semifinalists. Scott is just one of 30 DII player's to be named a semifinalist and has put together quite a resume in his junior season.
Scott, who was named the GLIAC Player of the Year just a few days ago, helped GVSU capture its second GLIAC Championship in the last two years, as he finished second in the event. On the season, Scott is averaging of just above 70 in his 24 rounds played and has taken first place at three events. He won the Findlay Invitational with rounds of 70 and 68 (138), the Kyle Ryman Memorial Invitational with rounds of 71, 71, and 68 (210), while also taking home the individual title at the Greyhound Invitational after rounds of 71, 69, and 71 (210). In his 10 appearances this season, Scott has yet to finish outside of the top-20, and has recorded nine top-10 finishes, seven of which also came inside the top-5.
The finalists for the DII Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year will be announced on May 17, while the winner of the award will be announced at May 31 with the honor being presented by Jack Nicklaus himself. In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 16-22, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky.
