Grand Valley State's Blomberg, Wayne State's Senkowski Named GLIAC Golfers of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth week of tournaments. Grand Valley State senior Mackenzie Blomberg claimed top honors in women's action, while Wayne State junior Nikolas Senkowski earned accolades on the men's side.


WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Mackenzie Blomberg - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior Mackenzie Blomberg moved up 14 places in the final round of the William Beall Fall Classic in Findlay, Ohio to earn a tie for third place overall in the 90-player field. After carding a round one 77 to sit tied for 17th place, the Auburn Hills, Mich. native fired a 72 in the second round to finish with a five-over 149 in the two-day event. Her 72 was the second lowest round of the day while also being tied for the second lowest round during the entire event.

Blomberg’s solid second round helped propel the Lakers to a second-place finish in the 15-team tournament, marking their third top-five finish this fall. Overall, GVSU finished with a 27-over 603 to finish five strokes behind winner Missouri-St. Louis and and one stroke ahead of third place Findlay. 


MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Nikolas Senkowski - Wayne State

Wayne State junior Nikolas Senkowski (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Avondale) helped Wayne State finish second at the Bucknell Invitational on Monday and Tuesday with a 567 (283, 284).  He tied-for-seventh with a 141 (69, 72).  As a team, Wayne State posted a 567 (283, 284), which is a program record for 36 holes.  The round one score of 283 is the lowest round since WSU posted a 281 during the second round of the NCAA Super Regional on May 9, 2017. Brendan Seys also tied for seventh after firing rounds of 71 & 70.
