BAY CITY, Mich. - Ohio Dominican University junior Midfielder-Forward Colby Catlett (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after recording three goals and an assist over three league matches last week.

Junior MF-F Colby Catlett, Ohio
Dominican University’s leading scorer this season, finished
the week with three scores and an assist, giving him seven scores
and 16 points on the year. He recorded his second multi-goal game
of the season with a pair of score in Tuesday’s gut-wrenching
loss to Saginaw Valley State. Following an assist against Northwood
on Friday, Catlett notched his second overtime game-winner from 40
yards out at the 113:55 mark to upset the Saginaw Valley State on
Sunday.

Ashland
Eagles
The Eagles lost, 2-1, at Lake Erie
on Sunday in their only game of the week. The Storm took a lead in
the 32nd minute and carried that lead late into the game. Senior
Kenny Hewitt tied the game in the 81st minute off an assist from
senior J.P. Lytle. Just four minutes later, though, the
Storm’s Willy Cognee gave LEC the lead with the game-winning
goal. The Eagles return home for the first time in a month on
Friday when they host Northwood. The Eagles also host Saginaw
Valley State on Sunday for Senior Day.
Findlay Oilers
Just 72 hours after The University
of Findlay fell to Tiffin, the Oilers returned the favor by holding
off the Dragons by the final score of 1-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in
Tiffin, Ohio... After managing eight shots in the first half, the
Oilers hard work finally paid off in the 51st minute when freshman
Cullen Baron found the back of the net off a cross from Chris
Bailer... Findlay's defense took over for the remainder of the game
as Matthew Brooks stopped all six shots he faced from between the
posts... The win gives the Oilers a 2-7-1 record on the season with
a 1-5-1 mark in GLIAC play.
Lake Erie Storm
Lake Erie College won its lone
contest this week, 2-1, over Ashland University at home
Sunday. The deceive goal came with 5:59 to play as freshman
defender Willy Cognee (Montreal Quebec, Canada/) scored his first
career goal to reclaim the lead Lake Erie had lost four minutes
earlier. Cognee took a his own throw-in, which was deflected back
to him and worked around the left side, just narrowly beating the
keeper and striking the far post for the key goal. Lake
Erie’s first goal of the game came in the 32nd minute by
freshman Cory Bucur (Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel). The win made
it a sweep for the Storm over the area GLIAC rival after a 2-0 win
in Ashland earlier this season. With 11 points, Lake Erie currently
sits in fourth place near the top of the bunched up GLIAC
Standings, just one game out of first place. It will be a
critical week for the Storm with their final home matches of the
season against Saginaw Valley State Friday and Northwood
Sunday.
Northwood Timberwolves
Northwood played to a 1-1 draw against Ohio Dominican in NU’s lone match last week … the Timberwolves are now 6-1-2 overall, 4-1-2 in the GLIAC … NU remains in first place in the GLIAC standings with 14 points, tied with Ohio Dominican … ODU has played one more game than Northwood … freshman D.J. Evans (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) scored the Timberwolves lone goal for the week … he has now scored in two straight games … on the season, Northwood has out-scored their opponents 18-7 overall … Northwood will travel to Ashland on Friday and Lake Erie on Sunday.
Ohio Dominican Panthers
ODU went 1-1-1 last week, all in
conference play, falling 4-3 in overtime to Saginaw Valley State
(Mich.) on Tuesday, tying Northwood (Mich.) 1-1 in double overtime
and knocking off the Cardinals 2-1 in two overtimes on Sunday. A
3-1 lead behind a score from freshman Brock Taylor (Columbus, OH)
and two from junior Colby Catlett (Hilliard, OH) would not hold up
as SVSU recorded three unanswered goals over the game’s final
14 minutes to steal the road win. After the tough home loss, the
Panthers responded to earn a draw at No. 18 Northwood and remain
unbeaten against Top-25 competition at 2-0-1. On Sunday, with
freshman defender Austin Dent (Pataskala, OH) in goal on emergency
duty, ODU got retribution against the Cardinals with just their
second OT victory and moved into a tie for first atop the GLIAC
standings. In his first action between the pipes this year, Dent
performed more than admirably, recording six saves and allowing
just the early score. Catlett, ODU’s leading scorer, finished
the week with three scores, including Sunday’s game-winner
and an assist, giving him seven scores and 16 points on the year.
With the three overtimes, the Panthers now have seven on the year,
breaking the previous school record of five.
Saginaw Valley State Cardinals
The Saginaw Valley State University
men’s soccer team defeated Ohio Dominican 4-3 in overtime and
Rochester College this week 5-0, but lost to Ohio Dominican 2-1 in
double overtime to close the weekend. The Cardinals had a hard
fought come back win over the Panthers on Tuesday (Oct. 4) scoring
two goals in just four minutes times to tie the game and send it
into overtime. Lachlan Savage scored two goals on the day for
Saginaw Valley, while defender Zach Myers had the game winner in
overtime. Saginaw Valley got off to a quick start over Rochester
College on Friday (Oct. 7) when they scored their first goal just
14 minutes into play and would score again just a little over 15
minutes later. The Cardinals would find the back of the net one
final time in the first half of play taking a 3-0 lead over the
Warriors into the half. Saginaw Valley extended their lead to four
when senior Andrew Burgeson scored off a pass from Laurence
Paterson. The Cardinals took a 5-0 advantage over the Warriors with
just 35 seconds left in the game when Dan Vitu found the back of
the net off a pass from Tyler Channell. Junior goaltender Jason
Wise secured the win for the Cardinals playing the first half in
goal, while the goaltending tandum of Tyler Yachcik and Pavle
Udovicic combined to shut out the Warriors in the second half of
play.
Tiffin Dragons
Findlay avenged a 1-0 loss on Oct.
2 and got their first GLIAC win of the season by defeating the
Dragons 1-0 at Paradiso Fields. TU played the first half at a 8-2
shot disadvantage. Jeremy Ashley totaled 5 of his 8 saves in the
first 45 minutes leading to a scoreless first half….Tiffin
University’s men’s soccer team failed to get the
offense on track as they hosted Cedarville University in their
annual Homecoming game, falling 2-0. Cedarville jumped out early on
the Dragons, outshooting them 10-5 in the first 45
minutes…Jeremy Ashley took the loss in goal, playing the
first 45 minutes and making 3 saves. Scott Felgar finished the
game, making 4 more saves. Only four of TU’s 9 shots were on
goal in the game.
